MANCHURIA VISIÓN PERIFÉRICA. FELIPE EHRENBERG
FELIPE EHRENBERG
The present book accompanies the exhibition at the Museum of Modern Art in Mexico City that reviews 50 years of creative trajectory of multidisciplinary artist, author and conceptual artist Ehrenberg (b. Mexico 1943). The book examines the artist in detail and is the first retrospective study dedicated to the precursor of contemporary art in México many times defined as a polemic and rebel, member of the conceptual movement fluxus, founding member of the "Grupo Proceso Pentágono", politician, social critic, traveler. He also has a prestigious reputation as a book artist and has produced several seminal works in this field. This artist's book is extraordinary not only for its contents and its outstanding design. "I don't believe in being baroque," the artist wrote to the designer, "but I chose Manchuria because it shares the 'M' with Mexico; you could have green, white and green like a soldier's fatigues... everyone has heard of Manchuria, few know where it is... just like my work." . The book comprises selected images of his neographic pieces, experimental films, photography, video art and digital art, an auto-biography written as a "chronology" of facts and contexts around his artwork and life complemented with the following essays: Reconstruir el vacío y recuperar el espacio: Ehrenberg conceptual / Issa María Benítez Dueñas -- Felipe Ehrenberg, un neólogo sin fronteras / César Martínez -- Mil novecientossesenta /e Martha Hellion -- Felipe Ehrenberg, el trasgresor / Guillermo Arriaga -- ¿Cómo se llega a Manchuria? / Guillermo Gómez Peña y el artista (interview).
